Exactly 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story movie was released, launching the animation giant as a major film company and introducing audiences to iconic characters like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a glimpse into the plot but leaving fans curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys

The preview shows the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a brand new plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is what Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and assisting giveaway items find good homes.

Certainly, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the badge pinned to her outfit.

Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the toys.
