Jair Bolsonaro has been taken into custody after authorities concluded he posed a serious risk of fleeing while under home confinement.

The former head of state was sentenced of planning a armed takeover in last fall and sentenced more than over two decades in jail, but he was staying under house arrest pending court reviews.

Bolsonaro was found guilty of orchestrating a plot aimed at retaining his authority after he was defeated in the presidential race to his left-wing rival, President Lula.
